Its emblem derives from an act of loyalty of the inhabitants of Rome, the legendary mother of Siena. However, it should be pointed out that the Roman she-wolf adopted as an insignia under the republican reign of Mario, is an Etruscan symbol taken to Rome by Veio after Rome was destroyed. the "twins" are a renaissance addition.
The Patron Saint is San Rocco. It has its Seat in via Vallerozzi, a name derived from the "rozzi" (rough) people from Arezzo who came to Siena and lived in this valley.
In 1512, the Contrada started building its Church which contains many paintings and frescos by XVI century Sienese painters. The beautiful baptismal font in the square in front of the apse of the Church, close to the "Società" is the work of Emilio Montagnani (1963).
It was in this territory that the famous painter Antonio Bazzi, nicknamed "Sodoma" lived, as died Sapia Saracini whose life is commemorated by a plaque inscribed with Dante's poetry (Purg. Canto XIII) which can be found at the top of via Vallerozzi.
