Oratory

Saint John the Baptist church formerly of the Congregation of Tredicini, via Casato di Sotto (officiated since 1788). The Church has been owned by the Contrada since 1788 but was built in 1629 by the Congregation of Saint John the Baptist known as the "Tredicini" by the number of its founders who wanted to remember with that name the Christ with his twelve Apostles. The oratory passed into ownership of the Contrada on the basis of the Leopoldine laws that suppressed the ecclesiastical orders. The Congregation was born in 1607 and managed to acquire a church thanks to the donation of Girolamo Pecci who offered part of the building; the design was entrusted to the Sienese architect Flaminio del Turco and created an original "plan" taking care of even the smallest details, not forgetting that being the church below the road level with respect to Via dei Percennesi, water infiltrations were likely. Of great importance are the pictorial works, including Domenico Manetti's painting "Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes" (dated 1643), the "Birth, Circumcision and the Imposition of the Baptist's Name" (1670) by Bernardino Mei; the "Madonna del Latte (or Madonna and Child) small icon placed within a gilded wooden residence, work by Francesco Brogi of 1866; finally the wooden Crucifix, later work, placed to the left of the entrance. And then: table reliquaries and two tabernacles that enrich the artistic patrimony together with sacred furnishings constituted almost all in the same period of time acquiring importance and originality. No alienation since the Contrada, as mentioned in 1788, became heir of the Tredicini and guardian of jealously kept "treasures". The "secular" area of ??the Sacristy is used for the preservation of ancient customs: those of 1878, those of the subsequent renewal of 1904 (Duce, Paggio Maggiore, jockey's bodice, gualdrappa) on sketches by Alessandro Franchi. The silk flag of the same author located near the entrance stairs and "handled" by Alfredo Forni (Mastuchino) inventor of the "jump of the bow", a difficult game still represented today in Square. Previous oratories:
- San Pietro in Castelvecchio (since 1719 to 1749).
